Assessment Schedules Semester 2

  • Please find the Assessment Schedules for Year 7  and Year 8
  • It is recommended students print these, highlight their subjects’ assessment and place these in a visible place to support the study and planning of assessment.
  • If you have any questions relating to the assessment, please contact the class teacher in the first instance and then the Head of Department.

Year 8 Coordinator

Welcome back to Term 3 and the second half of the school year! It’s been wonderful to see our Year 8 students return with renewed energy and a positive attitude. Semester 2 marks an important stage in their learning journey, and we’ve already seen fantastic engagement, enthusiasm, and growth across the cohort.

This term, our students have been engaging in exciting new opportunities to explore their future pathways. One standout experience has been our partnership with James Cook University (JCU) through the JCU x CSHS Careers Program. Students recently participated in a career quiz designed to help them reflect on their interests, strengths, and possible future careers. It was a fantastic chance for students to start thinking about the journey ahead as they move through school and begin shaping their goals.

In the classroom, students have continued diving into rich learning experiences across all subject areas. Highlights include our Connect program, which has encouraged students to build stronger peer relationships, explore personal growth, and develop resilience. The Wellio program has also continued to support student wellbeing, with positive feedback from both staff and students.

Outside the classroom, our Year 8 cohort has shown fantastic spirit and teamwork in sport and extracurricular activities. From competitions to lunchtime clubs and leadership opportunities, it’s been wonderful to see students trying new things and supporting one another.

As always, we are proud of the way our Year 8s are growing. Not just academically, but as kind, respectful, and curious individuals. We look forward to a strong finish to the term and more memorable moments to come

Year 7 Coordinator

Welcome back!

Welcome back to Semester 2 for all our wonderful Year 7 students and their families! Semester 1 flew by so quickly. I am looking forward to another great semester with such a fantastic group of students.

Report Card Reflection

Our school motto is Vencit Qui Se Vincit: one who conquers self, conquers all.

Throughout Week 1 and 2, Year 7s have reflected on their Semester 1 report cards in Connect classes. This reflective process involved identifying areas of strength and weakness in their academic, behaviour, and effort results. These 3 components are absolutely interlinked. When students focus on improving their effort and behaviour in a subject, this has great positive benefits for their academic result.

Each student first selected a priority “Goal Subject” to work on throughout the term, then determined a goal academic, behaviour, and effort result to be achieved by the end of Term 3. It is crucial that students are explicitly taught how to set achievable goals within a specified time frame. For students who received a C on their effort result, what changes can they make that are reflective of a B level of effort in this class? If they received a D in their academic result, what strategies can they use to increase this result to a C by the end of the term? If a student received an A for their behaviour result, what can they continue to do to maintain this? Lastly, students communicated their goals to the teacher of their goal subject in order to be kept accountable.

Students will continue to check-in with their goals during Connect classes over the next few weeks. You can view the Goal Setting Sheet. Please check-in with your student and their goal progress throughout the semester. Alongside strategic and realistic goals, plenty of positive reinforcement will help our students achieve great things!
