From the Executive Principal

Congratulations to our many talented students who continued to impress all with their feats this term. Our Arts teams did a fantastic job to the Musical and the Chorale are off again to Brisbane in August to compete in the final of Choral Fanfare. Year 11 students are working hard with the new syllabuses and I am sure a constituent habit with study will pay off. We enjoyed a range of activities for Reconciliation Week and have welcomed and farewelled many international students. Year 12 enjoyed a cyclone free camp at Tinaroo last term and Year 9s are experiencing the cool mornings of Dimbulah at their camp in the last week this term.

At Cairns State High there are many success pathways and it is important to note that all are valid, difficult to achieve and lead to good future prospects. Gone are the days when university was the only option for a good career with many trades leading to a life in business and independence, as well as great income. I am pleased to see our students doing so well in Construction, Sport & Fitness, Hospitality and Childcare at school  as part of their regular school day and then there are some who combine school with TAFE, work and training as well as commit to their school subjects.

Year 10 are on a big learning journey as we head into holidays with work experience placements early next term and then we get move to a more formal counselling, information and subject selection. Students looking for an ATAR need to be satisfying achievement pre-requisites if they are to succeed in the 11/12 QCE by having a ‘B’ standard at the end of Semester 1. This will be strictly applied for 2020 so reviewing this term’s report results is vital as a family.

I hope you enjoy our Winter break with some great outdoor activity and healthy living.

See you in Term 3!
